Research Achievements

Dr. M. Murugan is specialized in the fields of Mycology and Molecular Plant Virology. During his Post Doctoral Programme at Taiwan analyzed TGBp2 and TGBp3 with C-myc tag with N-terminal ends of proteins which facilitate cell-to-cell movements since Bamboo Mosaic Virus (BaMV) encodes for the triple gene block proteins. The BaMV satellite RNA vector based expression of C-mycTGBp2 and C-myc:TGBp3  complement the function of movement-defective BaMV TGBp2 and TGBp3.  Western blot analysis used for the specific C-myc antibody recognized for C-myc fused BaMV TGBp2 and TGBp3 protein expression.  Northern blot analysis indicating that the chemeric SatBaMV RNAs could indeed be replicated and moved from cell-to-cell.  He has handled Confocal Microscope and observed the subcellular localization of each viral movement protein and the nature of cellular and structural modifications.  It is presumed that the vesicles may coalescence with vRNA complex and presents on ER and actins.  They act as a vehicle to transfer the material to neighboring cell through plasmodesmata. Further Dr. M. Murugan was also observed that C-myc:TGBp2 and C-myc:TGBp3 move from cell-to-cell  through single and branched plasmodesmata, respectively. Dr.Murugan has published more than 10 research articles in National and Inter-National Journals and presented papers in National and International Seminar/Symposia.
